Being Tall and Loving It!

For most of my life, I have really enjoyed being tall. There have been a few times I wouldn’t have minded being a few inches shorter, those mostly involved finding shoes I liked or pants that were long enough... but in the overall scheme of things, being tall has been great.
My Mom gets all the credit for teaching me to love being tall. I can still here her voice,
"There is no room in this world for a shrinking violet"
She encouraged me to stand up straight, no slouching was allowed in our house! She made me feel beautiful and taught me I could accomplish anything. I hope to teach my own daughter the same things.
Middle School and High School is all about fitting in. Being 5'11" in 8th grade isn't a great formula for fitting in. Still, I was on the Pom Pom squad, in school plays, and involved in student government. Fitting in is all about perspective, do I want to be like everyone else, or maybe.... other people wish they were tall!
Being tall really helped me when I was seeking my first management position. I snagged a Director position at a ridiculously young age. During the interview process, my young age came up quite a bit. Being 6'1" without heels must have helped because I certainly looked older than I was.
There are times now when I do wear flats when I'm meeting new people as I know I can be a little intimidating in heels, but that is my choice. I'm not wearing flats so I feel more comfortable, I'm doing it to make other people feel more comfortable.
I really believe God gives us our package, but it's up to us to make it work for ourselves. I love being tall and hope my kids feel the same way someday.
