Outcast Because I'm Tall
I receive a lot of letters from tall girls going through their trying teens. It is a difficult time for anyone, but tall girls often feel like aliens from a distant planet. I remember it well. This letter holds a special place in my heart, it was one of the first... and in subtle ways it says so much about the hints of hopelessness tall girls often feel. Smile! You're a tall wonder! (Pssst... the guys will come around once you get to college.) ;-)

Hi Marlene, You're Welcome.... Thank you for your wonderful email! I know it's tough! But hang in there, I was 5'11" at 15 too... Most of my best friends were Hispanic, Asian and more, growing up in L.A. So I definitely understand what your going through in relationship to others in your culture. You don't have to be perfect, you don't have to be a model, pretty is as pretty does. Be yourself, and try to be the best at whatever you do! When you find something you really enjoy doing, put your all into it, and you will succeed. My oldest daughter is 14, and she loves to write. So now she's writing a book. She has written over 300 pages, and she just keeps going. :-) Find what you love, put yourself into it, and your troubles will go away. I know you may not want to hear this, but what parents say is true: Stay in school, get good grades, and get to college.You'll be so proud of yourself! You can shine!
