Pregnancy and Tall Women: It's Different.... Really.

Pregnancy and tall women fit together beautifully.

We have 9 pound babies. And 7 pound twins. The average baby alone is 7 pounds!

We are also more likely to have twins (don't I know it).

A study in "Obstetrics & Gynecology" of The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists reports that, "Women in the top 25th percentile of height had a significantly increased odds ratio for fraternal-twin pregnancies..."

You can download the full report from The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists website here: Obstetrics & Gynecology Journal Study on Tall Women and Fraternal Twins .

You also may think you don't "look" as pregnant as other women, but when you're tall, your abdomen is longer and your baby has more room to grow. Yes, we can grow some big healthy babies! And you look great too!

Exercise can help you have a lighter healthier baby according this article on the Reuters newswire . "In fact, physical activity may positively affect birth weight, and subsequently positively affect labor, in taller women..." said Dr. Cooker C. D. Perkins from Pepperdine University, Malibu, California.

She also goes on to say that "perhaps tall and sedentary is a risk for labor complications." Well... I wasn't exactly doing aerobics during any of my pregnancies, in fact I wasn't doing much physically at all. (not saying this is good) But I can tell you I did not have labor complications because of it. Neither do the majority of "sedentary" tall women.

That's not to say that if your doctor concludes that you are one of the few who are at risk during your pregnancy, you shouldn't exercise. It is to just say...

Please don't fret over the "perhaps" syndrome of some researchers and experts who may say if you don't do this or that you're at risk. The world is not going to end! Many times "theory" and speculation can make the facts blurry. And when a Ph.D. speaks speculation, it can make you nervous. I know your a little out of sorts right now, so take care of what's important.

What's import now is to relax, enjoy it, and see your doctor for the "regulars".

That baby is listening and growing in there. Feeling what you feel, and you feel it back.

Maternity is a marvelous thing!
