You Know Tall Skinny Girls Like You Are Princesses, Don't You?

Let's talk about tall skinny girls be princesses... Halloween comes but once a year, and you tall girls know what that usually means.

It means costumes that are never long enough to cover your tall skinny legs.

Maybe you want to be a princess this Halloween. A princess costume is always beautiful—colors as bright as spring flowers, often adorned with glitter and sequins that sparkle and make it look as if your good fairy has just touched you with her magic wand, and the fairy dust is still swirling about you in a cloud of enchantment. And best of all, a tiara that twinkles like a hundred stars atop your head.

When I was a little girl—well, not a “little” little girl, but a very tall skinny girl still young enough to trick or treat, I always wanted to be a princess. But the princess costumes were always too short on me.

You’ve seen all the cartoons that feature your favorite fairy tale princesses. They’re tall girls just like you, but have you noticed they don’t seem to have a problem with their feet showing beneath their gowns?

How do the princesses get gowns long enough to cover their tall skinny legs?

They don’t buy them at the Tall Princess Shop in the village near the castle.

No, a tall princess usually gets her gown from a magic fairy. Fairies don’t have to be magical. Sometimes they can be people you know, people who are close to you. They may even be a tall fairy. And if they know how to sew (but not like the ones in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty!), perhaps they can make a costume for you that reaches the ground.

But sometimes, for many reasons, a fairy is not available and we tall girls have to make do—something the fairy tale princesses didn’t often have to do because their fairy did it for them.

How do we make do? Let’s look at it this way: Every Halloween, we hear the same advice about picking out a costume, and the most important thing to consider is SAFETY. Things like making sure if you wear a mask, that it fits well enough for you to see and breathe. One safety hint I see every year is making sure the child’s costume isn’t so long that she’s in danger of always tripping on it and falling down.

AH HA! Now there’s a problem none of us tall girls ever have to worry about!

Nothing can spoil your Halloween more than tripping on your hem, only to fall down on some hard pavement and maybe scrape your knees or elbows—OUCH! Or fall into a puddle and get all wet and muddy—YUCK! And when you fall, your candy is sure to spill everywhere—even into that puddle—and then you have to try and pick it up in the dark.

That’s not safe and it’s not fun. On Halloween, I want nothing more than for all you tall girls (whether your a tall skinny girl or not so skinny tall girl, or even an Eskimo!) to be be absolutely safe and most importantly have fun.

If there’s one good thing about a costume you think is too short, there it is. But when you ring doorbells and people answer the door, all they’re going to see is a beautiful TALL fairy princess—or whatever you choose to be this Halloween.

Now if only some of those people wouldn’t ask, “Don’t you think you’re a little too old to be trick or treating, young lady?” just because you’re such a tall girl!
