Tall Womens Clothes That Make You Glamorous
Where are those tall womens clothes for special occasions?
When the holidays roll around each year, it means lots of parties and family gatherings, when you want to look your best and most glamorous. Where do we find tall womens clothes for those glittering special occasions? And what are we looking for that shorter women don’t have to worry about? As usual, it all comes down—or up—length—and depending on the style of the outfit, that can go both ways. If you wear something strapless, you want something long enough that you don’t have to tug up or down. No tall woman should ever have to decide between covering her ankles and covering her—well, you get the idea. At least with cocktail dresses, you can do a bit of fudging with the hemlines. A cocktail dress is really little more than evening wear that doesn’t skirt the ankles or floor. Cocktail dresses can range anywhere from calf-length to whatever-you-do-don’t-bend-over. Only for really super formal affairs—like a ball, or a wedding where you—yes, YOU, not anyone else—are the bride—do you want the hemline to sweep (but not literally) the floor. Unless you happen to buy your ball or wedding gown “off the rack” or order from a catalog, you can get it altered to suit your height and conceal your shoes. I know one tall woman who, when she got married, ordered her wedding gown from a catalog which did not specialize in tall womens clothes. Her feet show in all her wedding photos, except for the ones where her train is arranged in front. Granted, she didn’t have to worry about tripping on her way up the aisle. Still, the sight of those white shoes poking out from beneath her ruffled flounce (it was the ’80’s) annoys her no end every time she flips through her wedding album. I went surfing the net to find some sites that sold tall women’s clothes for special occasions. At Roaman.com, I clicked on a link called Shimmer and Shine, and found lots of nice outfits suitable for any holiday gathering, from the smart casual (bejeweled jeans!) to ankle length gowns and beaded cocktail dresses. And they’re all reasonably priced. The same goes for a site called Long Tall Sally.com. They had some gorgeous evening gowns with plenty of spangles and sequins and beadwork. Finally, Tall Couture.com—the ones who sell the jeans that gave me sticker shock—have a good selection of special occasion wear for tall women, including one gown shown in “suuuu-per long” on a 6’1” model. These clothes go for almost the same price as their jeans—in some cases, even cheaper (go figure). I can see spending that kind of money on a cocktail or long dress, but not jeans, so I wouldn’t rule out this site for glamwear. We tall women stand out no matter what, but special occasions are the best occasions for us to REALLY stand out. We have the advantage of height to carry all that sparkle and shine. Not that we need sequins or fancy beadwork to do it. But they can be so much fun to wear. What are YOUR experiences with special occasion clothing, whether shopping or wearing? Tell me you never felt prouder to be a tall woman!
